QUESTION

Is there enough power to run a sump pump intermittently during a rainstorm when the power is out???

DURACELL POWERPACK 600

I use this power supply to run a portable ipod boombox in my 1964 Triumph TR4 as it has a positive ground and I don't want to convert it from it's stock format. It is perfect for what I needed and has also been convienient for other small jobs around the house. As long as you don't expect it to do more than it was intended to, I give it a solid recommendation.

Good price for a backup power source!

I haven't actually needed to "use" this item yet but I've got it plugged up and on "standby" for any emergency. I bought it mainly for the wattage and the price. Compared with the Black and Decker Powermate (only 400 watts) I felt this was superior AND Duracell is a good name for battery products in my book! I can say that I have used the radio and the light on it and that it appears to be charging fine.

When you need power

I've been using this power pack off and on for a few weeks and it's been great so far. If you need some additional or emergency power this is a good item to have in your inventory.

Value for Money

I would rate this product value for money. I did expect it to be more powerful but it certainly serves the purpose that I require it for. I think that this would be a tremendous asset in the event of a powercut.

Portable poower

It seems like the best of all possible choice at the time and I can't wit to put it to use, but am not inviting an emergency.

Very nice!

The quality of this item is excellent. We charged it up and plugged in a lamp that we would use if the power had gone out and also plugged in both our cell phones. We turned the light on and went to bed. It was still on and still had over 20% charge left in the morning. Phones were fully charged. Radio tuner could be better if it had a fine tuning knob like our weather radio has. Overall, great product.

Worth the price

This product is an excellent value if you keep the battery charged properly. I use my trucks cigarette lighter plug in for bulk re-charging and a small roof mounted solar panel to automatically maintain the battery charge over 14 volts @ 1 amp per hour during the day. Handy built-in inverter works as is intended! Light weight for me...only 29 lbs.

AM/FM Radio seems like an afterthought. Would be better with a digital voltage readout meter in its place.

Meets expectations

I use this powerpack to run my pop-up camper. It is much quieter than a generator and costs a lot less too. I plug my campers AC right into the powerpack just like I would if it were a generator. I have yet to plug something in that trips the over current circuit. This summer I will be able to determine how long the battery will last while camping. Until then, I am satisfied with the peak power performance. This powerpack can handle pretty high draw without tripping.

Good product

I purchased the Duracell Powerpack 600 three months ago. Since then I have used it to jump started my van with a big 5.7L engine four times (I finally tracked down the short that was causing the van battery to discharge). I have also used the AC and DC outlets for various tasks like powering my laptop and running an electric drill. I read all of the negative comments before buying the Powerpack. For the most part I think they had unrealistic expectations about the Powerpack. Of course it is just a deep cycle AGM battery in a convenient shell. You'll be happier if, before buying this product, you Google "deep cycle battery" to learn what to expect and how to care for the battery. I think the price is right and I would recommend this product to a friend. Oh yes, the radio really is a joke.

Great Product!

The only reason I did not give this product a 5 star rating is because it doesn't have over charge protection while using the 12 volt charger.
So far I have used this product twice on my 350 cu in V8 and it has worked each time!

Nice power pack!

This thing does a great job. I use it on my boat to power lights, fans or the tv in the evenings after shutting down the generator. It works really well. My only complaint is the ear-shattering alarm that sounds when it's about out of juice. It went off at 4am one morning and scared the heck out of us! I wish there was a way to shut it off. Minor annoyance, though, for a really good product.

Handy item

Pros - Well built and durable. Like the display that shows the wattage being used and amount of power left in battery. Also like the maintenance charge ability. I can keep the battery plugged in and then its ready to use when needed. Runs my 32 inch TV, DVD player and 100 watt stereo amp with surround sound for more than an hour.

Cons - Wish it also came with an air compressor (I know, what about the kitchen sink!)

Durable and easy to use

Tried this out on a camping trip to run a CPAP machine used to treat sleep apnea. It lasted almost three nights without using the heated humidifier. The directions were easy to understand and it came with a bag that holds AC and DC chargers as well as battery jumper cables. The product seems to be well built and durable. I wish it charged more quickly, but we are very satisfied with the product. Have ordered a small generator to recharge the battery during the day for extended camping trips.

power

The Duracell power pack was a great buy. the power pack was great on our camping trip. Several people at our campsite love it and stop and asked where i had bought it. The price was great and it was worth it. while camping i was able to power regular size CD home sterio and a electrical air pump to inflate an air matress at the same time without any power loss.the radio worked the emergency light was brite. make sure you re charge after each use for longer power source if you are camping.

It works fine. And you can add external capacity easily

Tried it a few times in the few weeks I've had it and found it to be terrific. I have a few of the smaller Black and Decker (10 and 20 VA) powered inverter modules that were clearanced for $10 at our neighborhood Home store that got me curious about this thing. Heck no, it's not a generator, and yeah, it's basically a flashlight about the size and weight of a cinder block, but the combination of radio, flashlight, clock and THREE 120 outlets would certainly be handy in a blackout. The Mfr recommends leaving it plugged in (charged by a little wall-wart transformer) all the time to keep the battery topped off.

Did somebody really say they wished the LCD clock could be turned off to save power? Nah, even an AGM battery will discharge with no draw at all WAY more than that little clock would - the difference has to be insignificant. And far outweighed by the convenience of having the clock stay set.

Now how about some superbright LED's in the handle? Now those could be normally-on so you could find it in the dark, but switched so the light wouldn't bother you if you were sleeping near it or something like that. They say the built-in 5-watt flashlight will run FIFTY hours straight on a full charge, so I'd guess that a few 20,000 mcd LED's would draw 5 ma each, and the unit would last for months (maybe years) between recharges. Of course, an AGM battery shouldn't be stored discharged (thus the directions say to leave it plugged in with the little charger going all the time) but if one stayed lit while it was charging, you could find it, and if the power went out, the bank could go on full by default and actually light up the area around the unit.

A good backup

This battery pack is no substitute for a generator, but is certainly a great backup. Rather than start up a generator to power a drill or a television, you can simply utilize this relatively light powerpack to run low power devices. We're definitely going to purchase a second one!

The internal light is powerful, and the internal radio is convenient. It's only an extra benefit that it can be used to jumpstart a vehicle. We're going to pick up some solar trickle chargers and use this as a small solar system in the house.

Good machine

Well the first one of these that amazon sent to me died in two days. The charging light refused to go out until the unit was fully charge even if the unit was unplugged, also the reading on the digital readout of wattage was vastly incorrect.
After receiving my second unit from amazon it works as described and I've found that this is mainly designed for light duty applications. Even though it sounds very powerful since it's able to run a device that is 600 watts and all. If you really desire to power something that powerful get a generator or something that holds more juice than this. For the most part I just use this to charge other batteries ie cell phones, laptop, and rechargeable batteries. I charge this machine on a solar panel about twice a week or so. 30 Watt Mono-crystalline Portable Briefcase Solar Panel 12V Charger - temper proof glass
It takes 3 to 4 hours to charge through the DC input on a perfectly sunny day, which could easily give you to time to charge cell phones and laptops and not have to use this machine till the evening.

Solar Power Generator

I'm using a 15 watt solar panel to keep the Powerpack 600 charged. I use it to charge pdas, cell phones, video games. I have also used it for portable power on fans, lights, TVs, and laptops. Will not power frigs and large power hunger items. I purchased the Powerpack 600 to see if it would charge from a solar panel and it charges from sun-up to sun-down. HEY,I'm a little greener than I once was!

It is NOT SAFE to leave this unit in your car trunk

An important item that the marketing materials leave out is that this unit must not be used or stored above 104 degrees Fahrenheit. There is a warning in the owners' manual about this. I contacted the manufacturer by email and asked if it was OK to store the unit in the trunk of a vehicle, which could get up to 150 degrees or so in the summer sun, as long as you let it cool down below 104 degrees before using it. The representative checked with their engineering department and responded to me that it is not safe to do so. Seems you can't allow the unit to get below 32 degrees Fahrenheit either, according to the manual. So much for leaving the unit in your car as an emergency backup.

Another thing that is not mentioned is that the AC outlets provide power that is a "simulated sine wave;" simply stated, this means it is not as "clean" as power from a regular AC outlet. Therefore, I would not recommend that expensive computers and other electronic equipment be plugged into the AC outlet. Use the 12V DC "cigarette lighter" outlet for this type of equipment, using the appropriate adapter for your cell phone or computer, and it is perfectly fine.

Otherwise, generally speaking, a good unit to have around, in your climate controlled garage, in case the power fails.

worked very well for a unique need

I purchased this unit with the hopes of running my laptop and a small photo printer at outdoor art and craft festivals ( of which I am a vendor)Often electricity is not available and many vendors use large generators. My needs were smaller then those vendors and I noticed a friend who kept something like this in their car and thought maybe this could work for me..well..it did! it was so easy to carry to my both and very tiny and quite and sat under a folding table powering the laptop and photoprinter for 6 hours. I was very pleased that this met my needs so inexpensively and unobtrusively! Im extremely happy with my purchase and while I too noticed that one of the displays didnt work , other than that it was all it advertised to be.

Serves a purpose in a pinch

The Duracell DPP-600HD Powerpack does serve several uses - some of which it performs above all expectations. However, it is important to remember that it is essentially a giant battery and NOT a generator.

One of my complaints is that the unit has a built in monitoring device that provides feedback on the amount of remaining power in the battery. Unfortunately, that feature did not work on mine. I am not sure if my unit is defective... but the display console is essentially useless.

PROS-

- Will power a cordless phone, modem and router for about 8 hours. We have our phone service through the internet - so when our power is out we lose everything.
- It can charge your car battery... in a pinch. I haven't tried it yet, but I am sure that if your car battery wasn't all the way dead the Duracell Powerpack could get you going!
- Nice built in flash light and radio. Not of huge use - but in the dark they are nice to have.
- Surge protector on the unit - things that pull too much juice will not even come on (like my wife's hair dryer)

Cons-

- VERY HEAVY - I haven't weighed it but the Duracell Powerpack probably tips the scale at about 25-30lbs. Any many cases it would be too heavy for a women or the elderly.
- It is severely limited in the number of amps that you can pull. Again, my wife's hair dryer pulled to many amos - and therefore - would not come on. This severely restricts its use during a power outage. As a rule of thumb only low powered appliances can be plugged in.

At the end of the day - for the cost - you could throw in a little more money and buy a generator. While the Duracell Powerpack is silent and does not produces any dangerous fumes it is limited in what you can operate. My recommendation - nice to have in an emergency - but it is not a cure-all if you happen to be out of power. 4 stars.

Good for my intended purpose

Bought this for extended camping trips. We frequently find ourselves at events that require camping out, and with limited or no electrical. I wanted something that could supply power to our wide variety of gadgets that we typically need as a modern family.

Put the Powerpack to the test on a full week trip recently. Through the whole week, it was used for a number of purposes. Including, recharging cell phones, camera batteries, various media devices. It also was used to power a compressor to air up 3 different air mattress (including a queen), and refill them as needed. It also ran a hair straightener and blow dryer a few times. And it was used to run a breathing treatment machine for a friends asthma at least once a day. Might have been used for other things.

The results. The Powerpack lasted through day 5 of a 7 day trip, but we had brought along a lawn battery to attach as a backup. It was simple to setup, and the provided the power we needed for the last 2 days. The main battery lasted about as long as I thought it would, so I was satisified throughout.

The reasons why it didn't get 5 stars. Two reasons, and both kinda minor. One, no way to turn off the clock. I know its not much of a drain on a battery this size, but I would prefer to maximize my usuage. And two, the power meter is no super accurate. It showed 90% power on Day 4, 70% power on day 5, only to be out of power come the morning of day 6.

To be fair though, a few things where plugged into it overnight from day 5 to 6. Those items where low power or turned off. So its hard to say if they caused the drain. Maybe if they hadn't been plugged in, the main battery would have lasted all week.

Overall, very happy with the purchase.

Seems like a good long-term maintenance charger5
I wanted a charger to keep my car battery charged (but not overcharged!) while I am away on multi-week trips. So far the Duracell 2 Amp charger seems to be working well.

It is a three-stage charger. The specification says that depending on the current state of the battery, it will do a fast charge to around 80%, then a slower charge to almost full, then finally move to a lower voltage "floating" charge to keep the battery near 100% without overcharging.

I used a multimeter to watch the charging process. My battery was mostly full to start with, so the charger started charging at 14.1 volts (the slow charge mode) and then after a few hours moved to 12.7 volts (for the floating charge). These both seem appropriate voltages. In particular, the floating voltage of 12.7 volts should be safe for long-term battery maintenance.

After about two days on floating charge, my charger's red charging light finally went off. Over the next couple of weeks, when I checked the charger, the red charging light was mostly off but I occasionally noticed it on. It looks like the charger is moving between off and floating charge as needed for sustained maintenance.

I'll have to see how the charger holds up under long-term use, but so far everything looks good.

Battery Maintainer5
Product works as described. Connect and forget. Plenty of connection options,I especially liked the connector covers on the ring terminal connectors.

Great Product!! DOES WHAT IT STATES!!5
This product is great!! It also has a low price.

I bought this for the cold winters here in Iowa. I have older cars they are 96, 92, 01. I just connect them through the lighter option connection and switch them every day.

My cars always start now. No problems at all.

This charger/maintainer is perfect for older cars that tend to lose their charges during cold sub zero cold nights.

Would highly recommend!!!

Duracell Inverter 1000 Protects Your Equipment
The Duracell Inverter 1000 has several features to keep both you and your devices safe. Over-temperature shutdown keeps the unit from overheating under extreme conditions and prevents fires. The overload shutdown ensures that the unit's inverter does not become damaged from being overpowered by the DC source. The low-voltage alarm activates at 11 volts of DC current, and the low-voltage shutdown turns the unit off at 10.5 volts. This keeps the internal circuitry of both the inverter and your electronic devices safe when there is insufficient DC energy to power them.

Duracell DC to AC Power Source Inverter 1000 Watt4
I've used this about 3 times now and have NO complaints with one caveat. The Inverter does not come with a power cord. Luckily I had one left over from my previous inverter. With out it you'll have to buy/make one.

Good product, but always buy a bigger inverter than you need!4
I originally bought this to power a 1000 W immersion heater, but the heater apparently pulls more like 1200 W. This inverter would trip almost immediately upon turning on the immersion heater. I exchanged this for a Cobra 1500 W inverter, and have never had a problem. So, don't get a 1000 W inverter if you have a 1000 W load.

Excellent Inverter, but not for powering UPS4
This DC/AC inverter is extremely well built and very quiet, even when the thermal-control fan is running. The terminals on the back are heavy-duty and come with washers and nuts.

I was planning to power my computer and satellite modem on my farm by connecting my existing APC UPS to this inverter, but for some reason the fault LED lights up and the inverter shuts down. Another reviewer mentioned this problem already, explaining it was because of the modified sine-wave technology. Refer to the following article to determine whether you need a true-sine wave inverter: http://www.roadtripamerica.com/dashboarding/Power-Inverters.htm

Anyway, when you connect an inverter like this to a battery, you are actually replicating a UPS, with two major advantages when living in remote locations:
-The first is that you can choose the battery capacity you want, and therefore the amount of time you can run your AC-powered devices in-between charges;
-The second is that you have a wide choice of options when it comes to recharging your battery (solar, wind, alternator etc.).

There are smaller and bigger versions of this inverter on Amazon (mostly under the Xantrex brand, which manufactures it for Duracell), so it is easy to choose according to one's needs (in my case, 1000W is a huge overkill for the computer gear only, but I may be able to power a large LCD monitor or a TV in the future).

Excellent Value!5
Purchased this to replace on I already had installed.
It is a great value for the money. It was about half as much as any other comparable brand and type. I got it installed and it's working great.

Great Power consumes little energy.4
This is a great product produces enough energy to power
tools and small appliances. I love the fact that it only
requires one set of wires that are included, You cant beat that.
Only improvement needed are one or two more outlets.

good product5
I wanted an inverter that had a digital readout so I could monitor the drain on the battery when the car was off and I was using my laptop.

this product fulfills that need with a compact design as a plus.

Good for Emergencies5
I was glad I had this when the electricity went out to run a small appliance. I had to run the car while I ran the appliance, but it was very useful.

Great 5
Probably the best out there.
The indicator is very useful, nice case.
Could be a bit smaller and square to fit better.

Customer Reviews

Works just as advertised!!5
My car, an Audi TT, for some unknown reason, sucks the juice out of it's own battery when it's sitting idle. $1,450.00 later, the Audi dealership tells me he still can't find anything wrong. After replacing the battery 7 times so far, I decided to buy a solar battery charger that plugs into my cigarette lighter. Trouble is, it did not keep up with the "unknown" discharge factor. I guess I need to buy a larger unit but where is one that uses a cigarette lighter plug in? So I bought this car starter to see if I could just plug it into my cigarette lighter and recharge the battery while I sat in the drivers seat. It works beautifully!!! After charging the Duracell DJUMP Emergency starter for 24 hours like it says in the instructions, I plugged it into the car's lighter. As instructed, 10 minutes later the little light clicked on to tell me the car battery was charged. Yehhhhhhh! My car starts up every time I have to do this....which is almost all the time. This unit needs to be recharged for 24 hours after each use and once a month if not used. It's so frustrating not having my gorgeous 8 year old car start everytime but at least now I just need to prepare before hand and I'm set to go. I hate attaching the clips of other chargers to the battery so this is perfect. It can rain or sleet or snow outside but I'm comfortable in my driver's seat waiting for the recharge to start the engine. I highly recommend this item for those who need and prefer a clean, simple recharging system. It really works great. Now I'll have to see how well it continues to work with time and usage!

works on my 97 5.7L Suburban.5
This product has been used at least 40 times this winter when my engine would not turn over. I had the same problem after I had the car battery replaced with a new one. I'm glad I had this product and have purchaed another one for my 94 Voyager.
Denise.

GoodGood b4

A bad thing is that this one is not very powerful. Good for small cars.

Customer Reviews

Very good charger.5
I had accidentally kept the light in my car on ... and it was sitting like that in garage for 3 days, so the battery was dead when I tried to start it.

Purchased this unit at target (same price), came back. This was the first time in my life to charge the battery. However, setup took only a minute. It started to charge the battery. I waited for approx 4 hours and the battery was fully charged. Disconnected and tried to start the car. Voila, started in first attempt. Saved me the hassle of calling jump start.

I cannot comment on technical details, but it worked like a charm for me for a dead car battery.

Needs Improvement3
I found the charger's display to be much too dim for daylight viewing. I have seen two chargers and they were both that way. It looks good in very low light or at night, but in sunlight it is just impossible to tell what is going on. Just another note - be patient after you connect it to the battery as it can take over a minute for the charging process to start.

Use on AGM5
I initially bought this through cosco and it didn't work - not their fault - and after returning it I found it cheaper through Amazon. I've used it for about a month to charge a large,630 Amphr, AGM, battery bank. So far it has worked as intended.

DURACELL iPod Charger (USB charger)5

Works just like the description said it would. Very nice and handy on trips where you cannot plug in a regular charger into an outlet. If one is on a bus and suddenly need to charge the iPod, this charger is excellent and keeps the music going! I recommend this for car, bus trips, airplane, and even boat trips. All vehicles that do NOT have an electrical outlet (Most trains HAVE outlets, which is nice). Don't forget to take this along on your next trip.

Functional but clumsy3
This external battery pack works well with charging the Blackberry but is a bit awkward to use due to the fact that you need to extend the mini USB charging arm to connect with the Blackberry. Also, this does not charge the iPhone.

Works great5
2005 Honda Pilot battery completely drained. Could not jump start with another vehicle. Brought the B&D battery booster at Target. Charged battery booster fully as instructed. Could not get it to work properly (tried the ignition key in all the positions). Aslo got the Duracell Instant Jumpstart System. Duracell worked like a charm.

It worked!5
I used this product to jusmp start my completely dead battery for a mid-sized SUV with no problems.

Generally works if not completely dead3
I have found this products works most of the time. If a battery is completely dead this may not have enough juice to get your car started.

Product in search of a niche3

UPDATE: After a few months sitting in the corner being charged, I tried it out today. Apparently there's at least one bad cell; a 600w load exhausts the batteries in about 45 seconds. So I revise my rating to ``piece of junk,'' niche or no niche. It needs a much better quality control on the batteries.

ORIGINAL Post:

Pros : about three times the run times of a comparable capacity UPS, based on battery capacity (3 x 17AH, vs typical 2 x 9AH in a 1500VA UPS). Maybe nice to have around to switch to when a regular UPS runs down in a long power outage. I got mine for $180, which would be a good deal in the UPS market. The current $380 would be too high for me.

Cons : a lot of cons. It's hyped as if it's going to help out in the gas generator alternative market, but has nowhere near the capacity you'd need in terms or runtimes. It could run a sump pump for an hour maybe (one cycle of my 1/2hp sump pump runs it down to 80% of charge, so 5 cycles would run it out completely), which isn't going to help much. For all this stuff, like refrigerator and so forth, you just need a gas generator.

The transfer time (80ms) is too slow for a computer when the power goes out. A UPS is ten times faster. No power conditioning.

Really heavy. A woman is not going to like dealing with it. Handles are convenient for the weight though. A Honda EU2000i 2000w gas generator weighs the same.

There's no powered-off charge-the-battery-anyway mode, and it consumes 10w when plugged in. Can only be powered off when not plugged in, so you'd have to establish a routine to keep the battery charged if it's not in regular use.

So perhaps its niche is as a backup UPS when the power has been off too long for the regular UPS. Plug the computer into this, then. When the power comes back, charge it back up and put it back in the closet.

It's a nice product, just one with no obvious use.

Get a gas generator for the sump pump and the refrigerator.

Piece of Junk1
This item is a piece of junk. Mine gave up after a month, and it is not even used much, just lying in a corner being charged. What is worse, their customer service is more than a piece of junk too. They diagnosed the problem as a battery failure. Since this unit is heavy and I would have to spend over $50 to ship it, I requested that they just send me a new battery and I return the old one to them. But, no! they want the whole unit back. What happened to the customer is always right? And this item is not even worth $100, much less the stated price. For one, it wont hold a charge long, and it breaks easily. A small electric generator is a much, much better value. My advice to you, do not patronize anymore Duracell or Xantrex, their products are junk and their customer service a joke.

OK for a high wattage B/U but extended times still require a genset3
Bought this recently from Amazon for $180.00 I will say its worth about that. I tried a few high wattage things in it like a hair dryer, Iron, coffee maker, just to see how long I could use it. These are things I could never think of using in a standard 1500VA UPS, (Which I have for comp and such) All of the devices ran well, the hair dryer probably sucked it down the fastest, (Set high 1500watts), lasted aout 7 minutes before the warning started going off. The unit ran about 5 more minutes on medium setting before the battery dropped to 20 percent. The battery did recover to 50% after turning off dryer, so high wattage appliances I think are a bit much for the batteries to output continuously.

The unit is heavy, about 60 pounds. For the money, I would buy again. I figure I should get about 6 hours on a computer with a flat panel attached. For most short power outages, this will get you by for a few necessities. Anything longer you will have to go generator.

The description reads as though you can use it for a fridge and other high wattage appliances, which I guess is true, but misleading as I would imagine a fridge would kill it in about 10 minutes or less.

All in all glad, I was able to purchase for the $180.00. If nothing else you can dry your hair when the power is out, and make coffee, without having to hook up the generator

Not enough juice for most cell phones2
This little gadget is a very cool idea, but unfortunately it seems to trigger a fault protection if a cell phone tries to draw close to (or more) than 5V/0.5A out of it. I tried a bunch of different HTC phones and this little device seems unable to feed any juice into it. On the flip side, all bluetooth headsets I tried charge fine.

Also this thing only works with real batteries - it refuses to turn on if one feeds it NiMH rechargeables. Tried with Sony CycleEnergy, Sanyo Eneloop, Duracell rechargeables. It only wants real alkaline batteries. That's a pitty, since NiMH batteries have a lot more juice to feed into a gadget...

Very convenient!4
I use this to charge my BlackBerry on the go if I don't have any other options available to me -- it works very well, and you can store batteries in the device without worrying about killing them - just leave the cables unplugged. I wasn't excited about having both the mini and micro USB cables, but now that more devices are standardizing on the micro USB, I'm glad that I have it!

very fast charger.5
This charge my ipod nano 4 generation in one hour, perfect for long days hikes, just recycle the empty batterys.

It is 100 W 0.8 A for 5 minutes only3
It is 100 W 0.8 A for 5 minutes only, all the rest of the time is 80W 0.65 A. Consider this when buying it.
It is made by a company called XANTREX in china for DURACELL.
On the picture is looking better than actual.

Works well with iPhone 3G4
Here's what I've found in the 36 hours I've owned this device. It has a decently long and appropriately thick power cable. It required a very firm push to get it in the lighter socket of my 2004 Honda Accord but that also means it won't be popping out on its own. There is an on-off switch that turns blue when pressed. My iPhone 3G does NOT work when just using the USB port of the inverter. Instead, I need to use the USB to A/C adapter that comes with the iPhone and plug that into the inverter, which works just fine. The inverter makes a very slight noise due, I assume, to a small cooling fan inside. The unit also has four small rubber feet for those who happen be able to lay the thing flat on a console or other similar area of the car.

All in all I took away one star for the inability to use just the USB cable of my iPhone. Otherwise, I think you'll find this will meet, if not exceed, your needs.

great small inverter4
The only fault I can find is, you have to push a button to turn it on. It does not automatically come on when you plug it into your car. so if your cars aux port turns off with the key, you have to turn it back on each time.
